The Scalar Flower Instrument: A Frame-Invariant Wave-Superposition Formalism for Natal Charts

Abstract We describe a deterministic procedure that maps a natal chart to a complex scalar field by treating each of the ten classical bodies as a unit-amplitude wave sourced at its ecliptic longitude, then reading the field's superposition. We prove that the instrument's core quantities — the hub magnitude, the winding number, and the chorus composition — are invariant under every astrological convention that ordinarily divides practitioners: house system, zodiac, ayanamsa, and even the choice of measuring anchor. We calibrate the hub against a population null and report a pre-registered predictive test. The geometry is exact and reproducible; the interpretive layer is symbolic craft; and the single predictive claim we tested was refuted. We present all three findings together, because the integrity of the instrument is the separation between them.

1The construction

Each body k of the ten (Sun through Pluto) is placed at its ecliptic longitude θk and treated as a unit-amplitude wave source on a unit disc. The real field is their superposition; brightness measures agreement, silence measures cancellation.

The hub is |F| evaluated at the center: a number from 0 to 10 recording how nearly the ten voices agree. The direction of the resultant is the field's aim. The pattern of constructive and destructive interference across the disc defines the chorus (the aligned majority), the counter-line (the dissent), and the winding number around any protected null (a vortex).

The canonical model gives every body equal amplitude. Distance, brightness, and mass weightings were tested and rejected: equal voice is the source of the information. A "Bodies lens" with physical weightings exists only as a clearly-labelled supplementary view.

2The frame-invariance theorem

Astrology's schools disagree about conventions: which house system, which zodiac (tropical or sidereal), which ayanamsa offset, which anchor. A central result of this work is that the instrument's core quantities do not depend on any of these choices. Because the field is built only from the differences between body positions and a reference, the conventions enter as a uniform rotation or cancel entirely.

✓ Established — theorem

The hub magnitude, winding number, and chorus composition are bit-identical across every house system, both zodiacs, every ayanamsa, and every measuring anchor. They survive even re-anchoring the whole construction.

The one quantity that carries a genuine convention is the aim's numeric value, which rides on the node-anchor choice. We disclose the anchor explicitly and never attribute meaning to an anchor-relative number. The canonical statement: the lattice registers, it does not transmit.

A parallel wavelength invariance holds: the same quantities are identical whether wavelengths are uniform or scaled to orbital period (the "Keplerian" mode). The Keplerian choice is texture for the eye, never meaning.

3Population calibration

To give the hub a calibrated language rather than an arbitrary one, we computed it across a real-ephemeris null distribution. Against a 2,000-sample baseline the hub has mean 4.34, with the 5th percentile at 1.22, the 95th at 7.50, and the 99th at 8.45. Interpretive bands are fixed to these percentiles, so the same words always denote the same rarity. A broader population calibration extends this across hundreds of thousands of births.

Every band is stated as rarity, never as rank. The near-cancellation pole (bottom 5%) is named the receiver's region; the top percentiles are named broadcaster and record territory. Coherence is architecture, not worth.

4The pre-registered predictive test

We asked whether the calibrated geometry predicts anything about a person beyond describing a shape. We pre-registered a blind protocol with a decision rule fixed before data collection: significance at p < 0.01, in the predicted direction, with effect size |Cohen's d| ≥ 0.2. We tested the hub against vocation on a corpus of thousands of Gauquelin records (outward-facing vs. inward-facing occupations).

✕ Refuted — and we report it

The hub did not predict vocation. The effect was tiny (d ≈ 0.06) and ran in the wrong direction. Two further predictive checks (a small agreement-set null; a hub-versus-trait test) also failed to support a predictive reading. This is the third converging null.

We publish the refutation because it sharpens what the instrument is. The calibrated geometry is real, invariant, and reproducible — and it is not a personality predictor.

5What the instrument is, stated honestly

Three things are true at once, and the instrument's integrity is in keeping them separate:

In the tradition of Edgar Cayce, the chart is read as aspirational: a description of what a soul chose to work with, a slope and not a track. Free will overrides; the geometry offers focus, never fate. What you build with it, and whether, and when — the field does not say and cannot. That part was never written. It is yours.
